About the Concert

Towards the end of his life, the German composer Johannes Brahms decided to never compose again—until he heard a clarinetist who inspired him anew! His trio for clarinet, cello, and piano is the result of that inspiration, and one of the greatest works of music ever written.

Accompanying it will be a trio by Beethoven, for the same instruments, composed when he was only 27 years old. The piece is full of vitality, with moments of tenderness as well as humour.

HausMusique’s artistic directors, Meagan and Cameron, have the immense pleasure of welcoming one of Canada’s most distinguished musicians, James Campbell, to perform with them in this concert. A clarinetist renowned worldwide, he has played alongside the most eminent musicians, including Glenn Gould and the famous American composer Aaron Copland.
